HIGHLIGHT OF SOME OF THE PAST EVENTS

The Bhavan, USA celebrated/organized:

• The centenary of Swami Vivekananda's historic address to the World Parliament of Religions in September 1993.
• The 125^th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in October 1994 when Coretta Scott King and Sri Chinmoy were honored with the Mahatma Gandhi Universal Harmony Award in appreciation of their contributions to the World Peace.
• The World Music festival in August 1995 featuring several singers and musicians from different parts of the world to honor the 50^th anniversary of the United Nations. Some of the artists were: Dr. L.Subramaniam, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt,Dr. K.J.Yesudas, Pandit V.G. Jog, Swapan Chaudhuri (India), Trilok Gurtu ( Germany), Mike Love, Stu Goldberg, Larry Coryell, Patti Austin, Narda Michael Walden (U.S.A.), Mia Masaoka (Japan), Sang Won Park (Korea), Babatunde Olatunji ( Nigeria, Africa) and Danny Rivera ( PuertoRico).
• The Commemorative Celebration of the 50^th year of India’s Independence. Several events were organized from August 1996 to December 1996, the major events being a Qawwali Music concert at the Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center on August 24, 1996 and a talk by Dr. Deepak Chopra at a banquet organized at New York Hilton on September 21, 1996.
