The Essay must consist of approximately 1,500 words and must be written in English. You must be between the ages of 18 and 22 to participate.

Successful candidate will have the opportunity to visit West Bengal, India. The group will study the salient aspects of the life of the local people from the view point of economy, education, culture, public health and environment. The group will then proceed to New Delhi and will meet with Indian dignitaries. Eight contestants will be chosen to participate in the Bharat Yatra III. The group journeying to India will depart U.S. on June 24 and will return on July 7, 2002. The all-expense-paid trip to India includes national and international transportation, housing, and meals.

Bhavan must receive essays by May 10, 2002

All participants must submit the following with a completed essay:

• Resume and photo

• Social Security number and the proof of date of birth

• A signed note stating that the essay is original and has been written by him/her for the competition. The letter must also state that the participant has no objection to the essay being published by the Bhavan USA.

A panel of three judges will evaluate the essays. The winners will be announced on May 31, 2002 by the news media. They will also be informed by telephone.
