HOMAGE TO THE LEGACY OF
SWAMI VIVEKANANDA

Swami Vivekanada (January 12, 1863 - July 4, 1902) was a manifold personality - a spiritual giant who strove for the good of all. He was a national maker and creator of world-wide spiritual civilization. He was an inspired seer born with a man-making mission.

He did everything for the salvation of India, for the removal of misery from the world and for kindling the spark of divinity in every human being. His message was therefore meant for all times and for all countries.

Today's world is torn by fundamentalist aggression and peacelessness arising out of a sensate culture. Everyone today is in search of peace, amity among religious and individual freedom. The world therefore needs leaders who are universal in approach, all-embracing in religious outlook, rational and humanistic in thinking and above all spiritual in vision. India's universal-rational-humanistic Vedanta culture has given us spiritual and epochal heroes like Mahavira, Buddha, Guru Nanak, Shankaracharya, Aurobindo, Ramakrishna and Vivekananda.

The outburst of global violence since September 11, 2001 tragedy, has the world looking for a way to create a new era with stability, dignified prosperity and peace. Today, everyone has understood the need for service, spirituality and respect for all religions and devotion to One Supreme Power with a variety of names and patterns with a view to creating peace in the world community.

The Upanishadic command " Uttishtatha, Jagratha, Prapya Varan Nibodhatha" (Arise , Awake and Stop Not Till The Goal is Achieved) echoed in the U.S.A. and Europe through the voice of the 'Wandering Monk' Swami Vivekananda who in the short span of 39 years of his life spread the eternal message of religious unity, harmony, peace and non-dualistic philosophy and proclaimed throughout the world. "Ekam Sat" (The Truth is One"). Today we need his message to be remembered in the world community. We need the vision of Vivekananda:

" Where seekest Thou, friend, God
Leaving aside those before you in myriad forms?
He indeed serves God who loves God in all living beings."
