Ayurveda, a 5,000 year old
Indian system of well-being, meaning the Science of Life, is perhaps the oldest
continuously used health maintenance system in the world. Ayurveda places great emphasis
on prevention and encourages maintaining health by paying attention to balance one's life
through thought, diet and lifestyle. It enables one to understand how to create balance of
body, mind and consciousness according to one's own individual constitution and how to
make lifestyle changes to bring about and maintain this balance.
Conference objectives:
Provide a forum for discussion on and dissemination of Ayurveda. Interact with
specialists of Ayurveda and Modern medicine from India and North America. Discuss the use
of Ayurveda in clinical practice and health education. Discuss modern in-sights and
current Research & Development efforts in Ayurveda.
Discussion topics include:
How to Introduce Ayurveda to Allopathic Doctors,
Ayurvedic and Beauty Care,
Health Maintenance & Diet,
Regulatory Requirements & Quality Control of Ayurvedic Food Supplements,
Ayurveda for the Elderly,
Specific issues such as Diabetes, Arthritis, Hypertension, Fatigue, Weight Loss,
Current Research into Ayurveda,
Mental Health, and,Ayurveda in Nursing.
This conference will continue to increase awareness about Ayurveda, its use and methods in
the context of health maintenance, as a bona fide and authentic alternative system of
modern medicine. Use and practice of Ayurveda in North America continues to increase. The
conference proceedings will support such an increase through presentation of on-going
research as conducted and disseminated in more than 150 medical colleges in India.
