The Bhavan has secured exclusive rights to the showing of two films during the upcoming Festival sponsored by the Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council (MIAAC). The two selections are "Bose: The Forgotten Hero" to be shown at the Tribeca Film Center Theater 1, on Thursday November 6 th at 6:00 p.m., and "Amal" to be shown at the same venue on Saturday November 8 th at 6:00 p.m. Both films are New York premieres. "Bose" is, of course, the story of " Netaji " who gets epic treatment form the veteran director Shyam Benegal .

"Amal" which marks the directorial debut of Richie Mehta is a wry, fable-like tale of contemporary India, which follows the chain of events set in motion when an autorickshaw driver (Amal) allows a dishonest, seemingly homeless curmudgeon to cheat him of his fare. The film features Rupinder Nagra, Koel Purie, Naseeruddin Shah , Seema Biswas and Roshan Seth .

CULTURE & PHILOSOPHY OF INDIA
Topic: “A dialog between Yajnavalkya and Maitreye ( Brihadaranyaka Upanishad)" Part3
What is Indian Culture ? What is Hinduism / Indian philosophy ? What is Dharma or Religion ? What is the connotation of Dharma ? Is Dharma different from person to person ? Who is Hindu and what are his principles ? Why should there be so many disparities within Hindu and other societies ? We are faced with these questions all the time.
With a view to finding out the answers to these questions, we are starting this series of lectures which will deal with the eternal (sanatana) values enshrined in the ancient scriptures given to us by wise men and women of India. The external life styles may be varied from region to region but the fundamental culture is the same, binding the whole nation into one entity. We shall discuss in the series the cultural and philosophical aspects of Indian way of life which are centuries old and relevant even to modern times.
